== Next talk and dinner form! (January 21) ==
For dinner on the 5th of June, we are going to order from Unikat. Let us know if you want to join and what you want to order: https://forms.gle/hFr3jNFT5Zizj49r6
Next week, on January 21st, Tess will delight us by talking about quasisyntomic descent :)

== PhD Seminar (Summer Semester 2024) ==
As usual, let us know if you want a pizza here: https://forms.gle/LDMmL2BbfKUqo1PW9 😊

=== Important ===

*If you want to give a talk, please get in touch with Andrea or Giacomo. There are only a few slots available.
== PhD Seminar (Winter Semester 2024-25) ==
*We invite you to join us for dinner right after the talk, where we can continue our discussions. If you would like to participate, you have two options: you can either bring your own food, or you can eat together with us (at a small cost) some food that will be delivered to the department (e.g., pizza).
=== Philosophy ===
We want to maintain the atmosphere we had last semester, based on the following.
*We want to encourage participation from diverse research groups, inviting speakers to choose topics they are experts in or passionate about.
*We want speakers to be able to choose what they want to present. Talks can range from introductory presentations to applications, or overviews.
*We want the audience to be always fully able to engage. Unlike traditional seminars where talks are interconnected, our format allows each presentation to stand independently, meaning that even if you miss a talk, you can still fully engage with and understand the following ones.

Next talk and dinner form! (January 21)

Next week, on January 21st, Tess will delight us by talking about quasisyntomic descent :)

As usual, let us know if you want a pizza here: https://forms.gle/LDMmL2BbfKUqo1PW9 😊

PhD Seminar (Winter Semester 2024-25)

Philosophy

We want to maintain the atmosphere we had last semester, based on the following.

  • We want to encourage participation from diverse research groups, inviting speakers to choose topics they are experts in or passionate about.
  • We want speakers to be able to choose what they want to present. Talks can range from introductory presentations to applications, or overviews.
  • We want the audience to be always fully able to engage. Unlike traditional seminars where talks are interconnected, our format allows each presentation to stand independently, meaning that even if you miss a talk, you can still fully engage with and understand the following ones.

Theme

Unlike the last semester we will not restrict to a single topic. Instead we will give freedom to the speaker to choose what they want to talk based on their interests. In order to facilitate the choice of argument, here are some possible suggestions/leit motives that can be of interest:

  • Why is the naive approach wrong?
  • A surprising application of [insert here e.g. condensed maths]
  • A result that I always wanted to understand the proof of
  • Duality results

General Information

  • Talks should last around 45-60 minutes, leaving ample time for discussions and elucidations at the board, and aim to be a gentle introduction to the topic.
  • This gathering is also the perfect opportunity to ask questions non-directly related to mathematics, such as suggestions for conferences, how to get access to resources offered by the university, how to get a decent sleep schedule, etc.
  • We invite you to join us for dinner right after the talk, where we can continue our discussions. If you would like to participate, you have two options: you can either bring your own food, or you can eat together with us (at a small cost) some food that will be delivered to the department (e.g., pizza).

We're thrilled about this seminar and the opportunity to share ideas and time ✨

Time and place

What is?

Here we will collect questions suited for a What is session. If you would like to add any questions to this list, or if you want to answer any of these questions, let us know in this poll (or in person): https://forms.gle/Jv49UiKZ3kptnvUs6 😇
