The algebraic K-theory of Lawvere theories unifies old and new group homology computations. I will review this in the first part of the talk. Then I will explain how the basic assembly maps in higher algebraic K-theory can be understood from this perspective. Many examples illustrate the theory. This is joint work with Anna Marie Bohmann.
